port be gone

'cause I'm movin' on!

Great day in the neighborhood today, as I had my port removed. Pretty exciting if you ask me! Sabrina took me.... we'd not hung out in awhile and had plenty to chat about until I was wheeled back for surgery. I got a nice little "twilight" sleep and next thing ya know, they're saying "ok you're done" and I was in recovery. Sabrina came in and said that took all of 20 minutes!

We went to Steak & Shake afterwards (as I'd not eaten anything since 9 last night) and then we went to Michael's for a few things, and to Walmart for my pain meds. I'm feeling fine though.

I had a good weekend; mostly stayed home and did some cleaning, gift wrapping and worked on my Christmas cards. We had a couple inches of snow early Sunday, then extremely high winds with roads closed and accidents all around. Temps dropped to single digits. I love the winter snow, but was happy to be in my warm home, safe and sound!

this is awesome!

My step-sister Colleen was looking through old pictures and sent me some from Christmas 2008 at our parents house in Vicksburg, MS.

This one in particular - caught my attention.

Because I'm wearing the same scarf (having just received it as a gift) that I wore to my last chemo treatment!

When I poined this out to a friend, she said "you're wearing the same smile too!" :D

I've always said that God only reveals what we need to know, when we need to know it. I would have never thought that less than two years down the road, I'd be wearing that scarf on my bald head! There are reasons we don't know what the future holds. That's why it's good to just enjoy the moment - the present (it's called that for a reason) as it is a gift.

So smile :-)

I was sad

to hear that Elizabeth Edwards passed away today.

These things strike me differently than they used to :(

I can relate now, in ways that I never could before.

It seems every week or two, I hear of someone just diagnosed.

I admired Elizabeth's courage, her positive outlook, her strength and dignity.

December lunch bunch ~

Had lunch with some girlfriends yesterday.... our once a month get-together. We met at CJ's in Bloomington. It was a small group this time, but plenty of great conversation and good food! I did a little Christmas shopping afterwards.

It's beginning to look . . .

a lot like Christmas!

We had 6-8 inches of snow last night and today! It was beautiful - I love it. Ok, well it wasn't a ton of fun as I was driving home (from pizza and a movie w/Paul) going 30 mph, late last night.... but I'll take it anyway.

And it's been looking a lot like Christmas in my house, for more than a week now (as you can see below). Anxiously awaiting Britt's arrival, and her being excited about Christmas, I got an early start on decorating this year. So now I can pretty much relax and enjoy the season. Well, except for the shopping but I think I can handle that :D

Jeremiah's had a nasty cough for nearly a week. This morning I could hear him hacking long before he ever got up, then he had a fever. So we went to the walk-in clinic and he got a two prescriptions. Nothing serious but hopefully this will speed his symptoms along and get him to feeling better. He had to work at Dick's late afternoon & until 10 tonight, so I got the meds filled and took them to him there. I snuck a picture of him (ok - 2) while he worked..... but we won't tell him that, ok?!

the end of a long weekend

It seems as if the weekend lasted from Wednesday night when Britt arrived - through when she headed back to KC today. But it was a fun-filled time which left me plenty to be thankful for!

I enjoyed such simple things as both kids walking in the door at the same time on Wednesday night :)

Besides our shopping time in Indy, we watched a couple of movies together and did plenty of chatting and laughing! I look forward to Britt's return for Christmas in just three & a half more weeks.

Here's one last pic we got today before she left ~

reporting from Indy

just a quick note from Indianapolis....

It has been family tradition to come over here after Thanksgiving, do some shopping and officially kick off the holiday season. This year would be no exception. As it would turn out, Jeremiah could only come for dinner last night - but he did bring Jordan over, we had a fabulous dinner together & then they did a little shopping before heading back to IL.

Britt and I came to Indy on Thanksgiving afternoon. We listened to Christmas music and it snowed as we drove eastward ~ it was perfect! We were up early to shop all of yesterday and will be hitting the mall again soon, before going home later today.

It's been a fantastic time. One friend told me how appropriate..... that I went to the mall two days after my surgery in May - and now am power shopping just a few days after finishing chemo :) I really can't believe that I'm done with it, it will be odd to have three weeks off, but I will enjoy it for sure!

on our way ~
